Pearly Drops – “Haunted”

Last month, Helsinki alt-pop duo Pearly Drops released their Haunted Expansion Pack EP, featuring two new tracks and two remixes from their excellent sophomore album A Little Disaster. The recent album was a seamless extension and follow-up to Sandra Tervonen and Juuso Malin’s 2020 debut Call For Help, an absolutely exquisite, multi-textured, otherworldly collection of, as they put it, “eerily haunting pop dirges.” “Haunted,” then, along with “Heather” (ft. Glayden & inter alia), is the perfect continuation of this very concept; Tervonen’s otherworldly vocals hover weightlessly above the instrumentals, which, here, are a stunning, multi-textured mirage of glimmering synth and stark electronic effects. In regards to A Little Disaster, I referred to their sound as being softly visceral, almost as if attempting to reconcile a perpetual tension between the known and unknown; this oddly beautiful tension seems to be expressed through the melody as well as the lyrics: “haunted by a feeling/ you hope will never fade.”

Haunted Expansion Pack is out now.
