The Lylacs – “Visions of You” (ft. Francis Blume)

Last week, The Lylacs released their new single “Visions of You.” Described as “southern California’s answer to the current era of disposable pop music,” the duo steep their sound in the lush, haunting, and atmospheric, complete with “classic melodicism” that still gestures to the otherworldly. “Visions of You,” a gorgeous track about the “psychedelic nature of love and desire,” is nearly twelve years in the making, and expands beautifully on their existing discography, falling nicely in place with previous singles “Heaven” and “Lovers/Friends.” Featuring stunning, prudent vocals from Francis Blume, the lyrics describe “a lost soul wandering through the desert in search of an end to his isolation;” true to this, there is a hazy, yet burning feeling of wistfulness that courses through the track, bringing to life the heat above and sand beneath this unforgiving expanse. As the track stretches to the close, the synth shimmers, evoking the tantalizing, phantasmagorical nature of a far-away mirage. But soon, the cycle starts again; “now the dream is over/ Another one in store/ I lift the head upon my  shoulder/ To follow you once more.”

“Visions of You” is out now.
