La Sécurité – “Dis-Moi”

La Sécurité are an art-punk collective from Montreal, Québec. Their particular brand of punk is a balance between equal parts “jumpy beats, off-kilter arrangements, and minimalistic melodic hooks,” resulting in an incredibly unique sound complete with passionate vocals sung in both French and English. With narratives centering around everything from friendship to mental health, ultimately, La Sécurité’s songs are “all about benevolence, caring for eachother in the face of omnipresent danger, and dancing as a means to revolution.” Their production has been referred to as “subtle postmodern ingeniosity:” a menagerie of ribbon microphones, vintage compressors, and a patchworked broadcast board that all meet modern tech to “wreck beautiful havoc.”

“Dis-Moi” (“Tell Me”), one of our favorite track from their recent full-length album Stay Safe! (along with the stellar, sprawling “Serpent,” that is) shows the quality in their production tenfold, despite being one of the album’s shortest tracks. Formed on a meticulous network of rapid-fire guitar and percussion, the track is as blunt as its lyrical narrative, about wanting to know everything about your partner and understand them completely, despite the impossibility of that result. Complete with industrial effects at the bridge – whirrs, sirens, and bubbly flourishes – there is also a sense of that self-awareness built right in.

Stay Safe! is out now.
