KEEPSAFE – “Joe (Losing Touch)”

Back in mid-December, Melbourne artist KEEPSAFE released his debut single “Joe (Losing Touch).” Writing, recording, and producing everything from his bedroom, Isaiah says he wants to “create music to daydream to” armed with narratives of “uncertainty and growth:”

[“Joe (Losing Touch)”] is an honest song about losing a sense of oneself. With lush guitars and an immersive atmospheric sound that carries dream pop and shoegaze elements – it’s the perfect blueprint to evoke a floating feeling beneath your feet.

It’s an incredibly apt description, once you’ve heard the track – tantalizing synth and guitar echoes combine like fresh and saltwater oceans to create a chilling cobalt blue entity of texture and depth, where the half-gravely, half-falsetto vocals can nestle and transcend. The vocals are earnest with just the slightest tinge of desperation: “Don’t take my time from me/ I need my time to breathe,” he asks right before plunging into the sonic body of water he’s created, succumbing to the motions. In fact, it is this gorgeous last minute where everything seems to converge into something like catharsis – the guitars are metallic, the vocals sharp and jagged, as if attempting to electroshock him back into reality.

“Joe (Losing Touch)” is out now.
