COOL HEAT – “Not My Fault” (ft. Flowerbabe)

Today, COOL HEAT  – also known as the solo project of Chicago-based musician and photographer Eden Sierotnik –  shares the stunning single “Not My Fault.” Following “Real Life” back in December, it’s the second new single from Abandon, Sierotnik’s upcoming sophomore album, follow up to his remarkable debut album Nowhere released back in 2022 as well as his excellent EP Permanence released last summer. We described Permanence as meticulous, maximalist, modern dream pop that – oscillating between shoegaze, coldwave, and synthwave – ultimately represented endlessness, solidifying it as an expanse of ongoing potential rather than finality. Featuring bold, brooding vocals from fellow lo-fi dream pop artist Flowerbabe, “Not My Fault” is the quintessential COOL HEAT track, catalyzed, driven, and perpetually renewed by a captivating synth melody that seems to multiply into infinity. However, the industrial-tinged, darkwave-inspired percussion keeps everything grounded, bringing more weight to the narrative. Ultimately, the atmosphere becomes and stays one of longing, the pain of attempting to regain – or at the very least, re-visualize – what was once lost.

Abandon is out this summer via Spirit Goth Records.
