London band Yuck’s new EP Southern Skies makes it very clear that they have taken a new direction with their music. 2011’s Yuck had more of the indie folk/alternative approach, including everything from meticulous instrumentals to well-written lyrics, which added to their unique persona. However, this new EP and the title track “Southern Skies” shows their alterations with their sound over the years, and it seems they have taken the more experimental route. It still houses the same addictive guitar riffs and nice lyrics, but it’s safe – a little more comforting and relatable. It’s bright and sunny but seems to encapsulate a sweet melancholy, maybe to mark the process of leaving an old idea behind and starting something new and wonderful.
