Superhumanoids are an indie dream pop three-piece band from Los Angeles. They are the perfect mixture of new age electronic and eighties pop music, and overall it sounds well rounded and simply joyous. However, their music doesn’t sound thrown together. The members have explained that they are intense perfectionists, and that they are meticulous about everything, from the verse to the chorus. In this track titled “Canteen,” these influences are very clearly heard, from the vocals to the thumping drum beats. I hear so many of the eighties bands that my older brother introduced me to, and needless to say, gives me a feeling of intense nostalgia that I didn’t even know I had. There are feelings of yearning and desperation, but not in a cold way. There’s a sense of isolation, but it’s one of hope and distinction. “Canteen” is from Superhumanoids’ debut album Exhibitionists, which was released in 2013.
