Cults – “Were Before”

Cover_Art_for_-Static-Cults are an alternative indie band composed of duo Madeline Follin and Brian Oblivion. Their music is dark and brooding at times, with heavily concentrated guitars and bass notes, giving their songs a slight Black Keys and Broken Bells feel to it. However, they do have the capacity to create delicate works as well, as seen in their song titled “Were Before.” Both Madeline Follin and Brian Oblivion’s voices are refined and focused, as well as the hazy, stunning orchestral undertones. The song also has a hint of nostalgia, a quality that I love in any song. Overall, I’m glad I found out about this band and I’m excited to hear new things from them. In the meantime, I would suggest this song as well as “Abducted” and “The High Road.” “Were Before” is from Cults’s second album Static, which was released in 2013.
