The Colourist are a really energetic band and their poppy indie music is right up my alley. They are an indie rock band from Orange County, California (where they are friends with the likes of Young the Giant and Local Natives), and their songs remain true to their name – they are fun, colorful, and bright. Their debut EP, Lido, showcased a genre that The Colourist likes to call “math rock,” which refers to a rhythmically complex style of indie music that utilizes intricate musical structures and often times modernist composing techniques. Nevertheless, you would never have known listening to their music. Their self-titled debut album, The Colourist, is scheduled to come out March of this year. “Little Games” is on that album as well as the EP, and it’s sure to get stuck in my head for the next week or so.
